First-Timer Tips

For those of you working with your little ones and the Strider for the first time, here are some tips to keep in mind as you progress on your Strider:

Be patient
Keep the seat low if they're really young - let them get used to walking with something under them
When they're comfortable walking over the Strider, tell them to sit down on the seat This is where the balance starts coming into to play.
Raise the seat once they're comfortable sitting and using their feet
Be supportive - make a huge deal out everything they do on the bike. High fives work well.
Be patient
Put a hand on their back, don't hold the handle bars - they need to steer to help them balance

Fall is Here!

It's been a wonderful Fall season in MN with warm weather and lots of beautiful leaves. The weather has afforded lots of bike rides - now if the days just weren't so short...

Over the last couple of months, I've been hearing all sorts of great stories of kids learning to ride their first pedal bikes, many as young as 3, all because they started on a Strider. That's awesome! Congratulations to all you Strider graduates out there - great job.

Despite being able to ride a pedal bike, Charlotte still loves to grab her Strider and tear it up. Here are some shots of our Strider adventures this past weekend.

They Really Do Work

This is a prime example of what a Strider can do for your little one. My daughter Charlotte is 3.5 years old and has only tried to ride a pedal bike without training wheels one other time, yet here she is riding for blocks and blocks at a time. She absolutely loved it. She was smiling and didn't want to stop riding. When she told her daycare provider that she rode a bike, she was jumping up and down and you could tell she was so proud.
The Strider bikes provide the foundation for riding - balance and control. Because Charlotte learned these skills on a Strider the transition to a pedal bike was pretty easy. After she got on the pedal bike, the only thing that was "unfamiliar" to her were the pedals. She didn't have to worry about falling over or steering - she knew how to handle that part of riding already. All she had to concentrate on was pedalling. It's so much easier to do things when there's less to think about! And making things easy is what the Strider bike does.

Get Your Strider Registered

Did you know: Each Strider PREBike has it's own serial number.

I encourage you to submit it and your info at http://www.stridersports.com/register-your-strider.html so that we can activate your warranty, help you keep track of it, and send periodic updates and helpful tips.

The serial number is stamped into the steering head tube of each bike just below the logo.

Strider in the snow

Well - the Halloween contest came and went without an entry. That's okay, I'll try something else in the future.

I wanted to show everyone that just because we have snow on the ground it doesn't mean that you have to keep the Strider bike parked. Charlotte has ventured out a couple times this year.

A nice feature of the Strider bike is the fact that it doesn't need air in the tires. This means that if it was sitting for awhile you can just jump on and ride. Even with the cold weather there's no loss of tire pressure. Pretty cool.

Halloween Contest

Awhile back I talked about taking your Strider bike trick or treating this Halloween. It's a great chance to incorporate the bike into the costume, plus, it'll allow you to hit more houses and get more candy! ;)

This year I'm holding a Halloween Strider contest and I hope you'll play. The rules are simple:
Take your Strider trick or treating
Snap a photo of it out on your route
Email the photos to adamsbikeshop@gmail.com by November 4th

All entries will be pooled and I'll pick a name at random.

The prize will be something from the Strider store and will be announced soon.

Halloween is coming

Halloween is right around the corner. If your household is like ours, the costume has been picked out for weeks, but not before being changed several times.

This year, try something new....get your little one out a Strider when you go door to door. Fix a basket to the handlebars to carry the candy. Imagine the speed you would all cruise the neighborhood this Halloween. (Kids - that means more candy!) Plus, just think how cool a little princess or cow would look scooting along the sidewalk. If the front door allows, the kids wouldn't even have to get off the bike - "trick or treat!" and then turn and ride to the next one.

What color goes best with Halloween? Orange of course!

Brake Assembly

I just ordered Charlotte a brake assembly for her bike. Ever since riding with her friends she's been putting her feet on the launch pads more and more. She's good at slowing down or stopping with her feet, but I thought maybe the brake assembly would make it a bit easier. And save her shoes.
When it arrives I'll post some pictures and the instructions. I can get you the brake assembly for $20.00 + tax.

Strider in the woods

Not too long ago I invited my daughter Charlotte to ride some of the very same trails that I ride. I told her it was in the woods and that there would be other bikers, roots and rocks. She immediately said YES. We set a day and talked about trail etiquette until the day came.
Here's a map of the trail system. We hit the green loop in the upper right corner.

I didn't know what to expect. We were going to hit the beginner loop, which is pretty short - for me - and has a couple hills. What I wasn't ready for, was how excited and how fast Charlotte was on the trail. She LOVED it! We were jogging to keep up with her. The roots and rocks didn't slow her down one bit. She really enjoyed the downhills and the occasional push I gave her for the longer uphills. What's cool with the Strider bike is that I can trick her a bit. I "push" her by putting my hand on her back and she thinks I'm pushing, but I'm not really pushing all that much and she's still doing most of the work.
Initially I thought we'd make it about half way around the loop before she got bored or tired, but I was wrong! We made it the whole way, with one significant stop to allow a group of riders to pass.
After that it was back in the saddle and kicking up dust! When we finished she asked "Umm, dadee? Can we go 'gain?" Awesome! A quick check of the mileage reports .78 miles - way to go Charlotte!

Hello and welcome to Adam's Bike Shop!
In early 2008 I got my daughter a Strider Bike and after seeing her get used to it and hearing her ask me to ride it almost everyday, I decided to tell my friends about it so they too could experience the fun of Strider Bikes.

Soon after the spring of 2009 I decided to become a dealer so that I could help spread the joy of riding. I am an avid cyclist myself, with over 20 years of riding thus far. My father owns a bike shop in Duluth, MN, Twin Ports Cyclery. Naturally this was my first job and I had many roles throughout my years; sales, ordering, repair, ride leader, etc. I love bikes and I love seeing people ride bikes. Especially kids. So it felt natural for me to get into business selling Strider Bikes.

The site is new and still in process, but I intend to add videos, reviews, customer feedback, and event information, so if you want to keep in touch add this site to your favorite RSS reader, become a Follower or simply check back every so often. If you ever have any questions, let me know!
